Begun as a family-owned company, Gadot Chemical
Tankers and Terminals Ltd. (GCTT) Was founded by the Johananoff
brothers in 1959. Considered one of the companies that figured
prominently in the development of the young country, Gadot began
as a chemical importer to the small Israeli market and filled
a critical niche for Israel's fledgling industries.
The company, which went public in late 2003, has grown to become
Israel's predominant organization in chemical distribution and its
leading supplier of bulk commodity chemicals and other raw materials.
On 20 November, 2007, Ampal-American Israel Corporation, through Merhav Ampal Energy Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Ampal, signed an agreement with Netherlands Industrial Chemical Enterprises B.V. to purchase a 63.66% controlling interest (on a fully diluted basis) in Gadot Chemical Tankers and Terminals Ltd.
In 1962 GCTT was awarded the prestigious Kaplan Prize for Efficiency.
